The Importance of ‘PAUSING’ — Is it a Luxury or a Necessity?

“Pausing allows you to take a beat to take a breath in your life. As everybody else is rushing around like a lunatic out there, I dare you to do the opposite” — Maria Shriver.

Before we start, I want you to stop what you are doing for a few seconds.

Take a deep breath in. Exhale it out.

The reason why I suggested you do this is because you likely didn’t do it throughout the day due to the constant rush in your life.

While we are struggling to make ends meet and are working day in and out to put food in front of us, we have forgotten to take a break for ourselves and take a step back.

Pausing is more than just those quick snack and bathroom breaks between your long shifts of work. It is not your physical body getting a break; it is to give yourself a break mentally.

What is Pausing?

Pausing is a break that severs the vicious cycle of monotony that you have wired yourself around.

The cycle of waking up, going to work, and coming back home might not seem very alarming at the moment, but trust me, it soon becomes toxic.

This is especially bad when you lose hindsight of things that you once did for your happiness that you don’t anymore.

Why is Pausing important?

Before we discuss the benefits of Pausing, let me ask you one simple question.

How often do you do things that genuinely make you happy?

If your answer is “Rarely,” you know that you are doing it wrong somehow. One of the main reasons why we have forgotten to pause and relish life is because of money.

“Earn more money for a happy life,” is what goes on through people’s heads.

But, amidst working tirelessly for earning more money, we fail to realize that we have soon pushed our priorities back.

So, why is Pausing important?

It lets you cultivate your good side

Competition is a pretty great push in certain instances. But, competitiveness is a buzzkill. If your neighbor earns more than you and has just bought a new car, your heart will desire the same.

And, that’s when you overwork yourself and forget to take a break

This is one of the reasons why you need to pause.

It allows you to enhance your creative skills and nurture the good side you have likely forgotten. So, every time that you are hit with a creative block, take a moment to pause and reflect.

It allows you to adjust your goals

We all have our own set of goals and aspirations that we work for. And, when you are trying to pursue your goals, stopping and thinking about your priorities may seem baseless.

But the more you try to push yourself more, the more likely you are going to go off-track.

We are so busy trying to achieve our goals that we don’t feel accomplished when we do reach it, for the most part. This is precisely what you don’t want. This is also one of the reasons why pausing is a necessity.

The goal you might have set for yourself at the beginning of the year might shift with your values change. You need to realize that there is nothing wrong with that.

The Importance of Pausing in life is to self-reflect, take a moment, and assess which direction you are headed to, especially when it comes to accomplishing the goal in sight.

It allows you to discover new aspects to life

When you are in a constant state of rush, trying to meet deadlines, you will likely lose touch with reality.

If that’s happened to you, know that you are not the first person experiencing that.

We put a restriction on our tunnel vision, prohibiting us from looking around and exploring our horizons.

Pausing allows you to reboot yourself. It instills a better sense of reality by changing our viewing angle of things around us and our lives too.

Sometimes, we are so self-consumed with our lives and with the temporary goals that we forget to explore new horizons and new aspects to life.

Pausing allows you to breathe for a while by taking a step back. It also allows you to find new goals and objectives for your life that you likely wouldn’t have known otherwise.

It prevents from further piling of baggage in life

Every person you meet has baggage in their life that you know nothing about. And, there is nothing wrong with it. You likely have your own too that you don’t know of.

Unknowingly, we tend to fill our lives with several unnecessary things, and sometimes, people too. You wouldn’t know, but the more they weigh in on you, the more they restrict your mobility through life.

Like your home, your life needs a deep cleaning, and pausing helps you do just that. The only thing that you need to do is find the time.

When talking about pausing, nobody is asking you to put a halt to your life for years. It could be an hour of thinking as well.

It would help if you took a moment to break down the pile of baggage before it ends up consuming you whole.

It allows you to regain your lost strength

When you are working 10+ hours a day and not prioritizing yourself, there will come a time where you will break — not just physically but mentally too.

Every jug of jar runs out of water at some point, and so will you.

Sometimes, it is important to pause to refill your inner energy reserves to get through. The more time that you keep excusing the need for pausing, the more time you will need to replenish the lost energy within you.

It lets you see into things you are missing out

Every time that you flip through a newspaper and see an advertisement for your favorite snack, you know you can’t have it then and there.

It is so close, yet it seems so far.

This is precisely what people’s perspective is with Pausing.

We know that we can regain our lost strength and zeal in life if we take a little break, but at the same time, that is exactly what we put off.

The power of pause helps reinforce more inspiration in your life, allowing you to reach for brand new life desires. All you have to do is realize that you need it, and you deserve that pause in life.

Is Pausing a Necessity?

More than just a luxury, pausing is a necessity. Just like how your mobile phone needs to be recharged to function, your life mimics that too.

You need good food to keep yourself physically fit and healthy, but you also need a break every once in a while to restore your strength and get that inner zeal back.

It doesn’t cost you money to take a break. And, it would help if you were strategic in a way that it doesn’t hamper you economically.

All you are doing is claiming an hour or two from your life every day or every week to rejoice and step back.

How can one practice Pausing?

Now, this is a commonly asked question.

And, to be honest, it is not rocket science.

Still, we have sorted out a few ways you can pause and catch a break from your tiring life now and then.

Go on a holiday

This is likely the most common way to pause and unwind. If you haven’t stepped out of your house and office’s common periphery, you need to do it now.

The money will keep on coming as long as you are fit and happy.

So, sometimes, take a step back. Book a holiday and get away.

If you are tight on a budget, save up and make bookings in advance to save more coins.

Meditate

This might not seem very effective for some people but practicing mindfulness every day is one of the best ways of pausing.

Just take 10 minutes out of your day in the morning.

Close your eyes and meditate. There is no complication to the process; neither does it take a lot of time to do.

Spare 10 minutes to unwind, take your mind off things, and just enjoy the state of the mindful pause.
